Requirements
- Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check and be at least 21 years of age;
- Possess a high school diploma or general educational development (GED) certificate;
- Obtain annual documentation from a physician or other health professional that he or she is free from tuberculosis and hepatitis B;
- Candidates MUST be vaccinated for COVID-19
- Have previous experience working with the intellectual and mentally challenged individuals;
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend documentation, which may be of a technical nature. Have the ability to communicate with the person to whom services are provided, and be able to read, write, and speak the English language;
- Must know how to communicate in a respectable and professional manor;
- Must be able to perform basic mathematical computations. Observe, log and chart information;
- Have the ability to maintain composure in a stressful situation and to react quickly and efficiently;
- Must be able to perform minimum duties for caring for others, unassisted. Assist others with walking, reaching, standing, stooping, and kneeling at all times using proper techniques;
- Possess an active CPR and First Aid certificate and ensure that the CPR certification is renewed annually and that First Aid certification is renewed every three (3) years;
- Complete pre-service and in-service training as described in DDS policy; and
- Participate in competency based training needed to address the unique support needs of the person, as detailed in his or her Individual Support Plan.
